The popular saying "If you are not moving forward you are moving backwards" comes to mind. This is true but my variation is truer from my experience. My take on this is "Even if you fall on your face you're still moving forward." This is truer because if you’re afraid to fail you won’t make any progress and there is only progress or regress in business and life in general, there’s no standing still. You’re either moving forward or you’re moving backward.
It may be more amplified in business however, because your position in business is always 'relative.' In order words, you need to always compare your business to your competitors to know how you "stack up! You are actually regressing if you are on 'stand still' year in year out and your competitors are moving forward. Other economic factors like inflation also play a major role in this concept, $1 this year = -$1 next year etc. This can only be mitigated by increase in revenue or the general position of your business as revenue is not the only yardstick.
You always want to keep that forward momentum, even if that involves falling on your face. You’ll learn from the experience and be able to apply that to future challenges, potentially avoiding future face-fallings. When you don’t attempt something for fear of falling on your face, you don’t move forward, and you end up shriveling into a version of yourself that is not as great as it could be. In life and in business...
Until the next time...
